It's a wild wild world
I am love with this latest range of jewelry by Australian designer, Shonah; it's wild!
Fantastically colorful and unique, these animal pendants are made from both vintage and new fabrics mounted on Tasmanian oak and covered in resin. Attached to distinctive chains, they make for eye-catching and contemporary necklaces. (That red and cream ibis is calling my name!) There's much more where these came from too, including non-animal shapes like keys and lanterns, simple square pendants with stunning designs and accessories to match. Check it all out at Shonah Jewelry Design! (view online review)

Designer Discovery: Shonah Jewelry
Hand-carving each piece of craft-work, Shonah has truly established a unique collection. Using various screen-printed fabrics, vintage prints, and patchwork, Shonah Jewelry has stomped its way to the map! The collections consist of various pendants and earrings molded with specific intent and bold aesthetic. The colors intertwined in the various pieces are specific to their inspiration. Though there is not one single scheme throughout the collection there is definitely variety; a great addition to any ensemble, especially when pursued in a cohesive manner. The creation of the jewelry is really where the wonder of its infallible design lies. These pieces were mended with purpose, it’s an inspiration that refuses to torn away from the creations. In Shonah Tomkins world, fabric doesn't just laze about waiting to be sewn
or draped. It goes to work covering delightful little animal
shapes made of
Tasmanian oak, gets coated in resin and made into crafty-looking pendants
and brooches. Vintage, patchwork and
original screen-printed materials are
pressed into service, and if you pop past her website, www.shonah.com you
can nab a
made-to-order piece.
Wooden Heart
As I listen to that haunting Portishead track, I'm admiring a range of brooches & pendants that also possess a wooden heart.
These beautifully crafted jewellery pieces are made by Shonah Tomkins, a Melbourne designer who works with fabric, resin & wood.
Her designs are stocked in boutiques around Australia, and a few weeks ago, the Shonah Jewellery Design website was launched!

Object of Desire
Shonah Tomkins' handcrafted pendants are a family affair. While Tomkins draws the shapes and picks the fabrics
(her own screenprints and vintage fabrics), her father, a retired farmer, cuts the pendants from Tasmanian oak. $55-$77,
